Guns. Razors. Knives.

Holy fuck it's been a long time. Well, the Deftones have brought me back. Fucking Christ the new track is amazing. I love this band. You should love this band. Of all the bands that I loved at 15, the Deftones may be the only relevant band left. They have gotten consistently better with every release. After literally years of cock teases, this is their return. I look forward to them taking out The Dillinger Escape Plan on tour. It was supposed to happen before, in fact when Justin and I went and saw the Deftones touring Saturday Night Wrist, DEP was the original opening act. Drummer issues ruined that. Anyways. Here's to hoping they'll re-extend that offer. In May, the Tones will be dropping Diamond Eyes and this guy can't fucking wait at all.

OMG

So, I haven't been the happiest camper lately, but this is helping. It's so funny.

You are welcome.

Even better, here's an interview with Chris Dane Owens.

Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.

There has to be good in here.

Seriously.

Well, there was some good going on during my Western Thought final. The final sucked. It sucked a big one. The joking helped ease the tension of a test I wanted nothing to do with.

Molson beer is delicious.

Champagne is better. I am holding off until Thursday so I can drink my bottle without the worry of another test.

The Office has been making me really happy lately. Magnolia, on the other hand, has been tryings it's goddamnedest to stop my happiness.

Last chance, as if it could hurt.

Converge's Jane Doe record is hitting the spot. (That's what she said.) It's the most visceral/honest record I own. It speaks to my soul. I need this.

My Ghaleon puppet is pretty sweet.

So is my homemade Burger King puppet. My art is the best art.

The pie from Backyard BBQ is the best.

I don't want to pay taxes. I don't have any political motives behind this, but I don't want to do that anymore.

I need this shirt.

I'm tired of buying books I don't use in class. Weak.

Dexter is the second best show on television, following The Office.

Break my off a piece of that ap-ple sauce.

I want nothing to do with Second Life. But creating a Second Life IN Second Life is awesome.

I have no experience in dealing with vampires, though I did hunt a werewolf once. The only problem was that it turned back into my neighbor's dog.

I'm a little stitious.

Finals week sucks. I am not enthused about it at all. Oh well. Three days of tests and essays. I am really looking forward to this ending. I need the break. I'm really close to having too much. I'm burning out and I have classes all summer. Three weeks of bliss until then, though. I plan on drinking champagne, playing video games, reading a few books and working for three weeks. No mental stress. Just pure enjoyment. I need it. It just hit me all of a sudden, how much I need it. I have gotten little enjoyment out of things lately. I am hoping for something good to happen. Maybe some beer and Star Trek will help.

Fanboys

So, I've kinda been avoiding my blog this semester. I have been a bit preoccupied with life, liberty, and the pursuit of Beefeater gin and tonics. But, I decided that it was time to do this thing right. I have been living with a neanderthal for the last two semesters. It has been an enlightening experience to say the least. I have learned many things. One, I'm an awesome dude with some serious patience. It's like I live with a small child who only wants ice cream and video games. On top of that, he's a goddamn liar. He never cleans after himself. It's bad. I have begun to retaliate recently with bareassed farts on his pillow. Two, my beard is ridiculous. I didn't notice that until I got a new drivers license today. You can't see my neck. I'm still not going to trim it until Meredith is back. It can only get longer. Three, change is good. Everything is changing. EVERYTHING. Well, not everything. I'll still be dating Bucketface, but that is to be expected. She puts up with me. It works. Nothing else lately has been. At least I have her. At some point I'll post some of the experiences that come with living with swine, but that'll be another day.
I watched Fanboys tonight. I've been waiting on this film for two years. It was amazing. I don't know why it took this long to come out, but I'm just glad it showed up at all. Fantastic film. Good writing. Good acting. There is a Jar Jar Binks tattoo. Enough said.
After finals week, I am going to have three weeks off. I plan on spending some time with my PS3. It misses me. So do my records. They'll get some love too. I just got a copy of The Dillinger Escape Plan's Calculating Infinity on orange vinyl. It's one of 110 in existence. It's beautiful.
I'm going to Savannah and Florida in August. I am also going to see Slayer in August. It's going to be a good month for me.
I have been a bit at odds with myself over the last year, and I'm finally starting to make moves. I have been really looking at graduate schools. I have been making real decisions that I should have made a year ago. Moving forward never felt so good. Better late than never.

Cherry Hearts

I am not a Valentine's Day fan. Not because it costs me money, but the candy is lame and the candy is important in my liking a holiday. Well, almost all of the candy. Wal-Mart carries Cherry Hearts at Valentine's Day, and they are delicious. They are one of my favorite seasonal holiday candies. But I'm a gummy candy fan and if you're not you will hate them, so purchase at your own caution. The easy rule of thumb for this is if you would buy orange slices, and love fake cherry flavors, buy Cherry Hearts now. If not, then don't. They also make Cinnamon Hearts, and though they are good, Cherry Hearts are better.

It's starting to come through.

Shaq Fu

There's a book I want to read titled I, Lucifer, by Glen Duncan. I've been reading up on it online, and it's definately peeked my interest. Our library doesn't have it, and I'm broke for now, so it looks like this one is hitting the back burner for now. I'm posting this because I don't want to forget it when I can buy some books again. I've made lists in the past, but I tend to lose them. Shabang.

I really want to see the film The Spirit, especially now that trailors are everywhere. Looks like a good time.

My Top Ten Albums of the Year

So, after some time to think about it, here's my top ten albums for the year.

10. Opeth - Watershed
This record is so fucking good. Beautiful proggy stuff. More Damnation than Deliverance, but "Heir Apparent" is one of the heaviest songs the band has ever written. Fantastic. "The Lotus Eater" is one of my favorite Opeth songs, though it's called "The Louts Eater" on my copy of the album on vinyl.

9. Kanye West - 808's and Heartbreaks
I'm not typically a fan of rap, but this isn't a typical rap album. It sounds like a 80's pop record, with the 808 drum machine and the auto tuned vocals, and it's a wonderful thing. "Heartless", "Paranoid", and "Love Lockdown" are my favorites. His raw emotion comes through the almost synthetic vocals, and it's a record everyone should give a chance.

8. Nine Inch Nails - The Slip
Well, apparently Trent Reznor just can't stop writing. Two records in one year, with The Slip being the better of the two. "1000000" is the danciest, most badass NIN song in years. Year Zero was a phenomenal record, but this seems a bit more in your face. There's not a bad track on the album. Seriously.

7. Cursed - III: Architects of Troubled Sleep
Cursed is fucking mad. Really fucking mad. Every goddamn track on this album oozes a vile, dystopian view of the world, and with good fucking cause. The world is fucked up. Nothing is changing. The music business is a mess. While touring the record, Cursed was robbed and subsequently broke up. It's sad, because they truly were Canada's heaviest export.

6. Jesu/Battle of Mice split
It's only four songs, but the split contains the best Jesu songs yet. Two, majestic, slow, beautiful songs. The Battle of Mice songs are no slouches either. Even though they aren't the best songs the band has recorded, they are better than most songs released this year.

5. Metallica - Death Magnetic
It's not a perfect record, but it's better than anything the band has produced in almost 20 years. It's a proper successor to ...And Justice For All, it's just too bad that there was all of the bullshit between the two records. It's nice to hear them hungry again. For christs sake, there are fucking TRIPLITS in "Broken, Beat & Scarred". So fucking good.

4. The Bronx - The Bronx III
The new Bronx record is a near perfect blast punk record. The leads are amazing, something the band has never done before, and the vocal hooks are top notch. Eleven badass songs with no filler. My only complaint is that there aren't any of the slower tunes, the other records had at least one each, and it would have been a nice change in pace.

3. The Misfits - Walk Among Us
I know this record didn't come out this year, but I hadn't found it until now. I truly love this band and had no idea. It only took me 24 years to realize how amazing this album is. The hooks are amazing. The riffing is top notch. Just a wonderful time.

2. Spylacopa - Spylacopa EP
Greg from the DEP can do no wrong. Last year, the DEP record was better than the rest, and this EP is almost as good. With Greg and Julie Christmas, of Battle of Mice/Made Out of Babies fame, sharing vocal duties, I knew that this record would own. 5 great tunes. The final tune "I Should Have Known" sounds like Pink Floyd and Radiohead blended together in the best possible ways. My only complaint is the lack of Julie Christmas, who apparently came to the project late and will be more prevalent on the next EP due out early next year. Bring it on.

1. Torche - Meanderthal
Torche have produced a perfect record this year. I can't skip a single track on the 13 track gem. Not only are the songs all kicking strong, but the album also has the best packaging for the year. Just buy the vinyl and you'll know. Amazing packaging. Amazing tunes. Goddamn goodness.
